NOMINATION DATES & PROCESS

AWARD PROCESS

Nominations are open on all categories from 19th October 2018. The Top 10 list for each category will be compiled from the highest number of nominations for public categories and by the judges for corporate categories.

The Top 10s will be announced on Friday 1st February 2019 on our website and by our media partners.

The public Top 10s are then voted for by the public, whilst the corporate categories are decided by our panel of independent expert judges.

CORPORATE NOMINATIONS

Companies and individuals who have been listed in the Top 10 will be asked to submit a 150 outline summary of their achievements initially, before being asked to complete a more detailed submission of evidence.

Corporate submissions are point scored by the judges. For transparency, all judges’ scores are shared but held confidentially between the judging committee.

The judging panel are excluded from judging any categories which have members of their company or their company shortlisted.

  • LGBT+ FUTURE LEADER
    This award will go to an LGBT+ individual who has taken responsibility to further the LGBT+ inclusion agenda within their workplace, either as part of an existing programme (of groups, events, communications, fundraising etc), or by setting up a new programme. This individual must be able to show evidence of raising the profile or pushing the boundaries of the LGBT+ inclusion agenda within the last 12 months. You can enter yourself, a colleague within your organisation, or an individual from another organisation.

Past winners: Jonathan Andrews (Reed Smith), Christina Riley (Balfour Beatty), Dr. Mark McBride-Wright (InterEngineering)

  • DIVERSITY HERO

We are looking for an LGBT+ individual who has pushed the boundaries when it comes to LGBT+ inclusion within their company and beyond. The winner will go over and above their day job and have LGBT+ inclusion and wider diversity initiatives at the core of everything they do. They should be able to provide examples within the last 12 months. You can enter yourself, a colleague within your organisation, or an individual from another organisation.

  • INCLUSIVE EMPLOYER OR COMPANY
    This award will be given to an employer or company that are truly engaged with their LGBT+ employees and customers, and have diversity embedded at their core, not just as part of their corporate ethos. The organisation should be able to provide evidence from within the last 12 months. You can enter your own organisation, or another organisation.

  • CORPORATE ALLY
    We are looking for allies that are committed to promoting equality and speaking out against LGBT+ discrimination. The individual should have used their position of privilege to support and actively participate as an ally in LGBT+ initiatives in their own company and the wider world within the last 12 months.

Past winners: Peter Madden (Arcadis), David Bryan (Cheshire Constabulary), General Sir James Everard (British Army)

 

  • LGBT+ INSPIRATIONAL LEADER
    This award will be given to an LGBT+ business leaders

We are looking for an LGBT+ business leader who has used their influence to effect positive change for LGBT+ inclusion. The judges will look for evidence within the last 12 months that the inspirational leader has been a role model and has had a large influence on their workplace and beyond. You can enter yourself, a colleague within your organisation, or an individual from another organisation.

  • NETWORK GROUP

We are looking for both new and established network groups, that can demonstrate that they are active, innovative and supportive of their LGBT+ staff, and can demonstrate success with implementing inclusion over the last 12 months. Judges will be measuring the value of the network group’s initiatives relative to their maturity and company size.

  • ONLINE INFLUENCER

Which LGBT+ online influencers have made an impact on your LGBT+ experience? You can nominate anyone from YouTube vloggers to social media stars!

Past winners: Shannon Beveridge, Connor Franta, Rose & Rosie

  • CELEBRITY ALLY

This category looks for a celebrity who has used their fame to impact LGBT+ lives, and who has demonstrated support for the LGBT+ community. This important award recognises and thanks those outside the LGBT+ community who support equality and inclusion.

  • LGBT+ CELEBRITY

Is there an LGBT+ celebrity who has proven to be a positive role model for you or others, who has come out in the face of adversity or who supports the LGBT+ community in a positive way? Nominate them here.

Past winners: Laverne Cox, Lauren Jauregui, Clare Balding, Stephen Fry, Alan Carr, Graham Norton

  • LGBT+ BROADCASTER OR JOURNALIST

This category looks for an LGBT+ individual who has made an outstanding contribution to delivering subject matter, news or content. The nominee will have an influence on public views of the LGBT+ community through media such as online journalism, television or publishing.

  • DESTINATION

We are looking for the most inclusive travel destination for LGBT+ people. Nominations should include hotspots that welcome the British LGBT+ public and are known to be LGBT+ friendly.

  • CHARITY OR COMMUNITY INITIATIVE

Charities and community initiatives continue to change the everyday lives of LGBT+ people. This category is looking for organisations with campaigns which have had a strong focus on the needs of LGBT+ people or have raised awareness to wider society.

  • BRAND / MARKETING CAMPAIGN

Is there a brand wearing its pride colours that stands out as authentic to you? Did they feature a same-sex couple in their marketing promotions? Or maybe they’re just popular with the LGBT+ demographic… submit your nominations here!

  • MEDIA MOMENT

What’s been your favourite LGBT+ moment in the media? This award recognises an act of significance for the LGBT+ community which has taken place in the media, from factual events witnessed on the news or in print, to fictional events which have taken place on stage, film, TV or radio.

  • SPORT

This category is for an individual, team, or association that has come out for LGBT+ inclusion in the sports world.

  1. Entries for the British LGBT Awards 2019 (the “Awards”) are open to those who are part of, work with, or support the LGBT+ community. Please see the Nomination Process page at britishlgbtawards.com/nomination for details on criteria.
  2. Employees or agencies of the British LGBT Awards, its umbrella company (“SPM Group”) or their family members, may not enter the Awards.
